Zodiac killer headaches. On the morning of october 22 1969 at 6 45 am the radio show went on air. The prolific killer targeted young couples along with a male cab driver and delighted in taunting police and media sending letters and puzzles about the unsolved cases. The killer gave himself the name zodiac in a series of taunting letters that he sent to local newspapers in the bay area. On october 22th 1969 a man claiming to be the zodiac killer calls lawyer melvin belli on a kgo tv morning talk show.

For some reason i found that really interesting and looked it up. Belli was supposed to meet the killer later in the day but he never showed up. News anchor walter cronkite introduces the story. Speaking in a soft almost boyish voice the caller who said he preferred to be called sam began to interact stating he suffered terrible headaches.

The killer originated the name in a series of taunting letters and cards sent to the san francisco bay area press. The caller agreed to be referred to as sam and he complained that headaches had driven him to murderous impulses. Apparently the zodiac did suffer from painful headaches. The zodiac killer or simply zodiac or the zodiac is the pseudonym of an american serial killer who operated in northern california from at least the late 1960s to the early 1970s.

These letters included four cryptograms or ciphers. Almost an hour passed and then at 7 41 am a call was received from the man claiming to be the zodiac killer. Surviving victim bryan hartnell and police dispatchers david slaight and nancy slover all concluded that. Slover earp told the herald last month that she slaight and hartnell knew right away it wasn t the zodiac killer.

The calls were traced to napa state hospital and the voice was later determined to be that of mental patient eric. After the broadcast a recording of the caller s voice was played for the three people who had spoken to the zodiac. For the past five decades the attempts to decode the so called 340 cipher which is made up of 63 characters had failed. The caller told the men he had had headaches since he killed a kid and he claimed he was the zodiac killer.
